Women's Voices for the Earth is a grassroots environmental justice
organization. Our mission is to empower women, who historically have
had little power in affecting environmental policy, to create an
ecologically sustainable and socially just society.
WVE works regionally and nationally
to eliminate and/or substantially reduce environmental toxics impacting
human health, and to increase women's participation in environmental
decision making.

Of the more than 10,000 chemical ingredients found in personal care
products -- everything from shampoo to nail polish to after shave -- 89%
have not undergone safety testing. Many of these chemicals have
found their way into our bodies, our breast milk and our children.
With breast cancer, birth defects and other health problems on the rise,
there is no reason for these chemicals to be in our products.

neurotoxin that has been linked to learning disabilities and developmental
delays in children. Mercury is passed from a mother to a developing child
in the womb or through breastfeeding. It can also damage the heart,
nervous system, or kidneys of adults.
SB 423 reduces mercury pollution from mercury products.
